Remington 1100 barrel question.........

I'm not sure about the semi-automatic shotguns but as for the pump guns you can fire a 2 3/4" shell in a 3 " chamber. With this in mind it should work.
As long as the shell is shorter than or the same as the chamber it should work. If the shell is longer then it won't work.

So what you are saying is??????????........the 2 3/4 inch barrel will will work on the 3 inch receiver as long as I only use 2 3/4 inch shells?

That's right the 2 3/4 barrel should work as long as you use 2 3/4 shells. The 3" shells won't fit in a 2 3/4" barrel. You might want to wait for someone who has an 1100 or knows the model better than I do. I have an 870 with a 3 inch barrel on a 2 3/4 receiver and it works perfectly with 2 3/4 " shells. When I first read your post I thought you were talking about using 2 3/4" shells in a 3" gun. Glad we got it straight.

Yes, 2-3/4" chambered barrels WILL work on receivers designed to take barrels with 3" chambers.

The shotgun above, is a 1983 model Remington 1100 Magnum with the 30" Full choke barrel removed and a Hastings 24" Choke tube barrel, w/ a 2-3/4" chamber, installed.

If there is a way to say that I love a shotgun. . . this one is it!!!!!!
I will NEVER let go of this shotgun. Never.

byf43 thanks for clearing it up. I thought I was on the right track but not having an 1100 I wanted to hedge my bet a bit. I knew it would work with the 870 but was only 99% on the 1100. Thanks for educating me.

safety note on 2 3/4" barrels

I have a model 1100 and it also has the 2 3/4" barrel, however you must be very careful in segregating out your 3" shells because they will chamber and shoot in an 1100 with 2 3/4" barrel. The danger lies in the possibility of a pressure excursion.

I found this out after the fact while hunting. It is very easy to mix a 3" shell in your vest and in the heat of the moment impossible to tell the difference between a 3" and 2 3/4" shell.

You probably allready knew this but i just wanted to mention the danger just in case.

It works!

I purchased a used 28 inch fixed modified choke barrel with a 2 3/4 inch chamber to replace the original 30 inch full choke barrel with a 3 inch chamber. The 2 3/4 inch chambered barrel fits right onto the receiver. It works perfectly, cycles without a glitch. I have never used 3 inch shells nor do I plan to. Thanks for all of the help.

You seem to have doubted us!

I will also suggest that you get a new "O" ring seal.
I kept the original "O" ring on my 1100 (pictured above) for more than 20 years, with NO problems. Others will tell ya to replace it every couple of years. They aren't expensive, but, they'll save you possibly some embarassement.

No Doubts......

Just letting you know I trusted your advice enough to buy a barrel. Knowing this post will be available for others to read, I was just verifying for any future doubters. It works! With luck, I picked up a really nice used barrel for $75 US.

A new "O" ring every year or two is a good idea. Keep an extra in your hunting vest and you'll never need it.
