I have a 1100 made in 1989 the barrel is marked 2 3/4 only also has a fixed modified barrel vent rib 28" barrel
Question
I wonder if I purchase a another barrel with a Remington choke will it fit my action.
The other barrel also states 2 3/4 also.
I see to run a little handicap when shooting skeet with my modified barrel.

Should be fine, a direct replacement. Where you get problems is when they made (Light Contour) 1100's in the IIRC late 90's early 2000 era. I run a cylinder choke on my 11-87 30" barrel for skeet. With the 7/8oz loads running about 1170fps it powders skeet targets. My shells just are able to function the gun and kick out about 3 feet beside me.

I did it to my 1100. I bought it used with a 30-inch full choke barrel and put a new 26-inch Rem-choke barrel in it. I had run great for me and is my 3-gun shotgun.

What the heck is handicap skeet?
I'm assuming, shooting with too tight a choke in, that is why he wants a barrel that will take choke tubes. Trying to hit that bird flying with a modified15" pattern as apposed to a skeet or cylinder choke at 30" wide pattern.

I shot 17 out of 25 with the 1100
The gentleman shoot with me stated the modified barrel is hurting my close up shots.
I test the gun on paper seem at 23 yards my pattern puts all shot in a white pipe plate.
I use light target load 1140 fps # 8
I think I could of did a little better if i had #9

Skeet is best shot with a skeet choke which is more open than improved cylinder. Long ago, double guns were labeled "skeet in" and "skeet out" which were the same as "skeet one and skeet two". The incoming bird was shot with the more open, in, choke, the going away with the slightly tighter, out, choke. Most of us now use a plain skeet choke. I have a M12 with a Cutts and use a skeet spreader tube. With my 1100 I use either my Remington Skeet barrel or one I had a thinwall I.C tube put in.
Anything tighter than imp cyl is plenty of handicap. I've shot lots of skeet with a muzzle loading shotgun with cylinder bore barrels and did quite well.

Yep, Rem 1100 bbls are not that complicated. I had a plain 12ga bbl threaded for chokes some years back, but now all I ever seem to use is Full. Tells me when I am not doing my part and that I need to go back to basics when shooting skeet or sporting clays. Oddly enough, once I concentrate more on my technique, the bitty targets start to bust up more regularly. Maybe if I shot competitively instead of as practice for pheasant busting, I would explore more open chokes.

I have 2 Remington one a 12 ga.
The other a 20 ga. Built in 1974 this gun was built on a 12 ga. Frame barrel I/C
I think I shoot this shotgun in skeet.
And keep the 12 ga. Modified barrel for sporting clays.
I look to see if I come across a used barrel for the 12 ga.
