Remington 1100 piston/piston seal?

Went to the range today with my new 1100, and had numerous problems with shells jamming, shell falling back out of magazine...jamming, and ejection problems. When I look at what I have, the instruction manual appears to show an extra part, but I'm not sure. here's what I have:

This how it is together

When taken off I have the o-ring, piston(?) and this ring of some kind on it

and this is what it looks like when I remove the ring from the piston(?)
Now, my question is, am I missing a piece here? When all are together, there is only a space for the o-ring to fall into a channel of some sort, then I put together. It did not jam all the time, but more so towards the end of my shooting session. Any help would be appreciated.

This looks to be the "new" gas system.

I like the old original gas system better.

I'd have to look at the online manual...something is not right I agree.

Most common problems is not getting gas system "rings" in correct order and going the correct direction.

Also take a Pipe cleaner and make sure ports are not obstructed.
New gun, factory oil /lube mixed with whatever goop gets attracted to lube in factory, shipping and whatever else.

Plugged up port(s) will mess up cycling.

Well if you notice the sticker on my barrel, it appears to be going in correct direction. When I went to the Remington website, the parts offered are what I already have, so I'm leaning towards the realization I do have all the parts and haven't lost anything. Now, this plugged up hole idea has me thinking that way and I will start looking in that direction. Any other suggestions or ideas as far as ammo used would also be appreciated. I was using Winchester 2 3/4" 1 1/8oz 7 1/2 shot ammo today, and later in the afternoon is when it really started jamming. Before that it was just sporadic.

Clean the ports first, lighter fluid, Hoppe's No 9, heck just dry works...

Ammunition:
Was this the Winchester Value Pack / Promo load with white metal ?

If so, do not use that ammunition ever again.
It has been the cause of MANY headaches at training facilities, clay shooting, bird hunting and plinking.
Out of spec, metal to plastic out of spec, in fact about the only thing correct about these shells, is the color of shell and correct gauge is stamped on head.

AA Target Load, should work...
I am not a fan of this Win AA hull with the "HS" either...Winchester "had" the best hull for 40 years in the AA Compression hull.
Machine getting old/ breaking ( they said) and instead of fixing machine came out with HS. One guess what I feel "HS" stands for...

Federal Value Pack, will work. Fiocchi game or target loads, Rem Target, Beretta shells, Kent, Estate... will work.
Stick with 2 3/4 dr eq or 3 drequiv , 1 1/8 oz payload , in a better made shell...the gun will run...oh yes indeed.

You dislike someone? Give them the "rinky-dink poor excuse for a shell Winchesters".

FWIW, I used to shoot and reload Win shells and components. I have had 3 pallets delivered of nothing but new AA Compression hull Target loads in all 4 gauges...
We would have 100k shells in all 4 gauges of reloaded and ready to shoot...using AA compression formed hulls...

Used to...Give me anything but Win and Wolf please....

One more thing - Chamber.

Most problems are Chamber and ammunition related.

For your benefit, and any new folks reading...

Leave Choke Installed

1.
Remove barrel.
Battery operated drill and chuck up a cleaning rod. Use wisps of the finest grit of Scotch brite pad to clean chamber really really good, then just run through bore and choke to clean.
Then just poke a patch or Tico Tool (similar names too) to clean.

2. Take a cleaning rod, and bend so can do the same while barrel is on gun, and from action open.

These two things have gotten a gun back running like a top so many times...

Scotchbrite. The reason I have stopped suggesting 0000 steel wool is , this stuff will rust. So if a person does not remove it all, it rusts in a barrel.
Not to mention in range bags and wherever else stored.
Brass wool is good, just harder to find...Scothbrite is easier to find and not expensive.

Plastic shells "plastcize" and cause a gritty, sticky chamber.

Chamber kept clean and dry, keep extractor clean [pipe cleaner] , Ports clean [pipe cleaner], bolt face clean [pipe cleaner] and use good shells, 1100 will run.
Applicable to any shotgun, gas, inertia, pump, O/U, SxS or single shot...

I mean not uncommon for me to run 1000 rds in two days and not clean a 1100 , ...and the gun never missed a beat...about shell 2500 they sometimes get a bit onery...with plastic shells.

4000 waxed coated paper worked fine...all in one week through that 1100...

As a matter of fact, it was the Winchester Universal value pak ammo. I did not know any better, and from now on I will heed your well experienced advice. I did have the choke in, though.
I cleaned the gas holes in the barrel, nothing seemed to come out of it as if were clogged or anything. I will also do the scotchbrite thing before next weekend and give it another try. Thanx for the help.

Serious Warning :

Opposite side of receiver opening is sharp as a razor on an 1100.
Applicable on some other guns too.

I mean "cut down to the bone" sharp!

Is there a chip missing from your piston seal? if so, replace them both.

The last Remington gas gun that I worked on (that had these problems) was an 1187.
The trouble was that the new owner had not cleaned the gun thoroughly before shooting OR he had lubed the outside of the mag-tube.
Whatever he did, it did not take long before the outside of the tube was all gummed-up with exhaust filth, preventing smooth operation of the piston rings.
I took it apart and cleaned with CLP.
It has not had a problem since. I shoot with this guy quite a bit and he was really disappointed with the performance of his new 1187 until I cleaned it.
And FWIW, I like the new system better than the old. I converted my old 1100 over to the new piston and it works great.

That Winchester Universal crap doesn't work reliably in many repeaters, even pumps.

Wal Mart bulk Federals are decent quality shells, and equal in price to the Winchester junk.

Bulk Remingtons (Sport Loads) are quite good, can be reloaded many times and cost about a buck more for 4 boxes.

No reason to buy the Winchester crap when Federal and Remington will sell you good product for the same price.

As a matter of fact, my son was having problems that day with his 870 with that ammo as well. Like I said before, I didn't know, I do now.
