Hi All,

After reading the FAQ on chokes 101 I think I know the answer to this, but am going to ask anyway. I have a Remington 1100 12 Ga with a skeet barrel.
Can I use this gun for home defence, and will it do the barrel any harm loading it up with #1 or 00 buck shot?

Then the second part of the question would be If it isn't going to hurt the barrel, would it be better to use #1 shot because the barrel probably is negatively choked ?

Given the probable distance of less than probably 7 yards or so, will the skeet barrel make that much difference at that kind of range?

Thanks all,

Some Remington Skeet TUBES are negatively choked, Skeet barrels run about 5 POC, IIRC.

And you will not hurt your gun by using it for defense.

In fact, if this is one you shoot frequently, you may be making the best choice possible.

Ok Thanks,

Interesting on positive VS negative dependant upon whether it's the barrel or a choke.
I was just concerned as the only thing I've ever had through the gun is target loads for skeet.

I appreciate the info.

almostgem, a few buddies and I go to Markham every Saturday morning at 8am...come join us at fields 4 or 5, I'll be shooting an 1100 Sporting.

Sounds good. Last few times out, I've been on the other side of the fence at the shooting range.
One of my friends has a 44 mag hand cannon that he insists he can shoot. :what:
All kidding aside, he did a whole lot better with it this last time out. (Last Sunday)
We were talking about visiting the other side to kill some pigeons. I actually have 2 shotguns, the Remington 1100, and a Stoeger Condor O/U with 12 and 20 Ga barrels.
Do you think you'd have room for two ?

Oh, yeah. I made that mistake at the shooting range about 3 weeks before. Got there about 8:15 and waited till about 10:30, and never got a lane.
It's not difficult for me to get there early as I'm always up no later than 6 and usually a lot earlier to make it to the gym with the wife when they open at 5 on weekdays.
Thanks for the heads up, I expected the skeet range would be the same.
