A local shop has a fairly-recent Rem. 1187 on their used-rack for around $400 with two barrels and a magazine extension. What do people think of the 1187? I found it maybe a little heavy, though I otherwise liked the feel of it, and the similarity of the stock and grip to the 870.

for waterfowl I'd be fine with it, if I had to carry around all day as an upland gun I'd say no.

I have an older version circa probably 89-91 that has had at least 30,000-40,000 rounds of mostly light target loads through it. I have replaced 2 o-rings, and had maybe 10 failure to extract issues with it, caused by most likely cheap promo shell reloads that I use occasionally. Got 30" and 26" vent barrels for it as well as a cantilever rifled slug barrel that will group 3" groups at 100 yards.

Shot a few ducks years ago with steel 3" mags and hunted a few coyotes and fox with magnum lead shells. One of my stable of Remingtons along with 3 1100's and 6 870's. And one of the last guns I would sell.

Hard to see how you could lose on a deal like that. You could probably sell one of the barrels and still recover your initial investment, if you found the right buyer.

The ONLY issue I have with mine is the weight. I went to a 20 ga 870, and that's so much better for lugging around all day. My only use for a shotgun anymore is to squirrel hunt, so a 20 is fine. I do love my 1187 though, and would never part with it.

Ive had one for years with a 18.5" police barrel that I had threaded for a winchoke. Mesa tactical stock on it. Its dead nuts reliable . Friends I go skeet shooting with are amazed when I pop clay pigeons out of the air with boring regularity.

I have an 1187 Special Field-straight stock. I love it...my Bennelli is for waterfowl and turkey.
