The local shop as a Remington 48 in 20 gauge for $200. It's in pretty rough shape cosmetically but appears to function properly. If a field strip doesn't reveal anything obviously wrong is it a decent deal? I'm looking for a dove gun lighter than my 12 gauge bps. I'd probably make a project of refinishing etc but I'd like to know if it's worth it the effort.

If you like recoil operated shotguns, the Remington should suit you, and that is a fair price, if it works. See if they will give you a 3 day firing inspection with factory ammo. Even if it doesn't work properly, there are still a lot of parts out there for the 11-48/48s, assuming you don't mind playing Mr. Fixit.

My understanding is that many 870 parts fit. It'd be fun to shoot next to mine. I'm gonna go in today and see what I can do.
