Awhile back, someone said that their Rem 552 Speedmaster shot the SSS just fine - can anyone verify that the 572 Fieldmaster Pump will or won't shoot them fine? Thanks.
that is a good question; I was the dude with the speedmaster. I would think they have the exact same bbls and chambers, but one never knows...
if I get to the range this weekend, i will shoot mine again, and then take some pics of the target, and 'speedy'...
It functions just fine in my single shot Annie but at 50 yards some will keyhole going into the target. Its the rate of twist that makes or breaks if you wish to use them. I can't so I don't ..........
But in testing them in a Ruger 10/22, A Browning .22 Auto, a Winchester 06, a Winchester 62A, and and two Colt Woodsmen, I was getting key-holes on target past about 25 yards, and very poor accuracy with every gun I tested them in.
But they functioned perfectly in everything I shot them in. You just couldn't count on hitting anything.
The problem stems from the 1/16 rifling twist rate used in most all .22RF guns.
It is too slow to stabilize the really long bullets!
But the only sure way to know is to try a box of them on paper at 50 yards and see if they key-hole or not.
They're long and slow, I wouldn't expect them to function well in any semi-auto and, as posted, the standard .22lr twist rate is too slow too stablize them. What you end up with is a quiet, inaccurate round in most rifles. If you want a decent subsonic try the Remington 40gr hp, it's relatively inexpensive and is quite accurate in my Savage. It should work fine in a pump, you'd have to try it in a semi to know for sure.
