so i just bought one of these great little plinkers and decided it would be a good idea to write a review as i havent seen any recent ones... so here it goes:
i picked up my 597 at a C.A.L. Ranch store up here in idaho where im going to school. they had it for 157 or so minus 10% and also a 25$ rebate from remington. so i got a super good deal.
now i have a ruger 10/22 back home that my family has had forever. its a great gun dont get me wrong, but they are way overpriced.
i got the 597 in a standard .22lr with the gray synthetic stock, and iron sights. out of the box there are a few noticible differences from the ruger: it has a heavier barrel that i like alot more, the bolt has a lock open feature when the clip is empty, the mag release is alot easier to sccess on the side. i will admit that the trigger pull is a little heavy but to me it didnt make a huge difference.
so i took it out and shot it the day i bought it after taking it all down to clean it (which i super easy to do btw) and the thing is incredible. at 50 yards with iron sights i could not miss. and that was just shooting off of my knee. i cant tell you what kind of groups cause we were just shootin some little metal targets and cans. but it is seriously super accurate.
alot of reviews i read in the past complained of not feeding properly and jamming alot. with the newer mags they have i never had one misfire or jam. the only problem i had was with the remington brand 30 round clip. it was a piece of crap i wouldnt bother even spending the money.
overall i am super happy with my purchase. i got it for like half of what you pay for a ruger and i would say its easily as good if not better. (please dont tear me apart for that ruger guys! i have one too! haha). i would reccomend it too anyone! my future plans include possibly the archangel stock, a scope of some sort, and some extended mags that actually work.
thats all i got for ya. thanks for reading!
