After being disappointed at the local gun show yesterday I stopped by at Dick's and they had a .22-250 on the wall for 549.99. The tag shows it as a "ADL". It has a camo synthetic stock and a el cheapo scope that would have to go.

What is this thing? I have seen some people think it is a STS? Would this be eligible for the 75 dollar rebate from remington right now?:

If you plan on keeping that stock, sure, but it is expensive to change from an ADL to a BDL type bottom metal, is this the heavy barreled one?
I saw one in .308 at dicks yesterday.

I bought one of those at Dicks just before Christmas for $469.00 It was the same one, 22-250 Remington 700 ADL Varmint with the heavy barrel. It's a great shooter and handles many different reloads accurately. The scope was junk but I put a quality one on it and it's a great gun. I put the junk scope on a little semi Marlin .22. Go for it...

but is it a "ADL" or a sts? Would the rebate from remington apply or not?

I didn't think the ADL was even around anymore?

I have seen people complaining about the stock, why is that? I kinda liked the feel, especially the cheek rest. Not really crazy about the camo but I can live with it.

And yes, its they heavy barrel one.

It is a 700ADL Varmint. In November of '09 I bought the 308 version. It is a very good rifle. With the stock that everyone says is junk I manage to get .59moa using my handloads.

It is an ADL not an SPS. That means it doesn't have the floor plate or detachable magazine box. Upgrade to a stock that fits a BDL will require a conversion kit to convert from ADL to BDL. Brownell sells one that is around $130. It will have the same action and barrel as the SPS Varmint and 700P sans the hinged magazine.

thanks for clarifying guys. I got it today for 539 with tax, not a bad deal but nothing to get excited about either. Can't wait to see how it shoots.

Nothing to get excited about?? Surely you were somewhat excited. Besides, one of these days, you can just replace the stock if you don't like the camo. That doesn't have to be an expensive ordeal.

I don't think so, the guy at the store said it he had someone else try it and it didn't work :(

I'm excited about the rifle, just not the price. It was an OK price, but not a super deal I guess.

I prefer the synthetic stocks on new guns. I don't care if it's camo, black, or green, they just feel good. The guns I have with the shiny wooden stocks sit in the corner. Just something tacky about shiny stocks/pretty guns.

My guess is that this is some sort of dealer exclusive for Dick's considering it is not on Remington's website
