I have a Remington 700 ADL I've been fighting myself about mounting a scope on, the iron sights are perfect, but I want a little more range. My question is can you still use the iron sights if you use the QR base on a 700? I know they make see thru rings but I don't want to go that route.

I put the Leupold QR mounts on my muzzle loader last year and they worked perfect for it. Take it off and while using the iron sights you don't even notice the bases. I can't imagine it being any different with the 700 action.

I know some people like the more traditional aspect of open sights, but if you've got a good scope with the appropriate range power I don't really see a reason to ever use iron sights.

I've taken deer as close as 10-15 feet with a scope and didn't feel that iron sights would have helped me make the shot any more effectively.

Please do not go with see thru mounts. Nothing wrong with the Leupold mounts, I just like the Warne better. If you want to save a few bucks, any of the Weaver style rings will return to zero pretty well. You just have to use a screwdriver to take them off. Since I am always close to a multi-tool of some type this is not much of a problem for me.

I used Talley QR rings and bases on my ADL with irons and I can still use the irons with the scope off; returned to zero just fine too.

I just set mine up with the leupold quick releases and you can see the sights just fine.

I agree with the point about staying away from any sort of see through style, but also don't think trying to save 10-20 bucks isn't a wise choice on any scope mounting set-up.

Haven't ever used Talleys of any sort, but you never read anything bad about them either.

I figured I'd go with Leupold because I know the name and have only heard good things...although i have never owned any of their products. I hope I never have to use the QR setup to use iron sights but I just want the option of using either. I guess I'm a little paranoid or maybe I'm just a Right-Wing Extremist. thanks again

I like Luey QR bases and Burris steel Weaver style rings together. You need a screwdriver, but after taking off the scope you can use the open sights just fine.

The Luey QR rings would back off under recoil on my .375 H&H, YMMV.

How can that combo work together? The Leupold QR bases have a hole in the middle with a little cam to lock into the part of the ring that protrudes down into the bases.

I've never scene any Weaver style rings like that?

I can't say I've tried them on a .375 H&H, but they hold up just fine to 150g of pyradox pushing a 300g sabot which isn't any slouch when it comes to recoil.
