I was strongly thinking about picking up a 700 in .308 caliber and hoped to get some feedback on what experienced shooters thought about the rifle. I'm probably going to get the SPS due to its affordability and was also wondering if anybody knew anything about this specific model. Thanks guys.

don't have that model (have the VS - picked up used for $599). had it for 1 month, added a cheap Barska scope and did a little load testing with it - shot 176-2X at 1000yds. i'd say it's worth the $$$. the score was probably only that low because the 168gr wasn't good for 1000, but didn't find out till after all my prep work.

I have a Remington 700 in .30-06, very similar to the .308. I think it is one of the best, lightest most accurate rifles. I would recommend it to anyone with confidence.

I would recomend a PSS if not for hunting due to weight. If you can find one new in box get one. I dont think they make one now. Great gun. You can do a lot with it, but the goes with the same for most 700 Remington. Basically the action is what you are looking at.

jwhunter...this is typical grouping of my .308 700 Varmint Special when I do my part...

Gents....those were shot at 100yds.....I was load testing the 155gr sierra palma match bullets. Those are three different powder charges (loads)....

I had similar results as pdh with my old 700 Varmint in .308. It looked identical to his rifle, except I had a Shepherd scope on it.

These are a few that were shot over a couple of years, in varying weather and temps. Sierra 168 Match Kings over 4064 at 100 yards, prone from a bipod. The center shots were the cold shot.

Yes they are. I made the mistake of trading mine off to a friend. Been trying to get it back ever since. He wont give it up no matter how much I nag. :)

I've been thinking of picking up another, or maybe one of the .308 AR's. Decisions, decisions. :)

Almost similar case as yours AK......I traded for mine off of a friend. It is in mint condtion....oh he wants it back soooooooooo bad...No FREAKIN way !

fast eddie....the pic of the first group (on top) was turned upside down when I wrote the info. All groups printed just left side of Bull....sorry about that.

I may also add.....that there had not been any modifications to my rifle other the having the factory trigger adjusted and the barrel breakin proccedure.
