I would like some input on a new rifle build...

Remington 700 SA
24" barrel chambered in .260 Remington
Accuracy International 1.5 Chassis

First question: Does anyone know of a quality gunsmith in the Dallas/FTW area that will do the installation for a fair price. (Truing, Lapping, headspacing, ect.)

This rifle will be a target rifle within 1000 yards, but also a medium size game rifle. (Deer, Aoudad Sheep, Hogs)

Second question: What Scope/mount set up would you suggest... Less than $1500.00 if possible. I was leaning towards the Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50 with TMR reticle.

There are numerous smiths in the south that can build you a great shooting platform. If you are wanting to keep it local you might want to give Ross a call at www.rossgunworks.com

I just finished a build simular to your description only being a LA and in 6.5x55. Rings and 20 moa base are Badger, the scope is a Leupold MK IV 8.5x25.

Thanks for the advise... Your set up is nearly identical to what I had in mind. That can looks awefully familiar also... AAC? I have the Cyclone and a Ranger II. Every barrel I own is threaded ;) Wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks again, I'll get in contact with Ross Gun Works and see what they can do.

If you can afford it, go with a Swarovski...don't know what they're prices are right now, but very possibly over the $1500 mark...I've got the same Leupold your talking about and its a plenty nice scope, just make sure its a vari x-3 assuming that's still how they list them. Looking for a REM 260 tho myself and would love a model 700...my 270 mountain rifle drives nails out past 400 yards with hardly any kick...
