I have a friend who has reloaded a bunch of cartridges for my son's Rem 700, .243. My son had trouble getting one of the bullets in the gun the other day and when he did get it in, he couldn't get it out. I tamped it out and asked my friend about it. He was curious about whether the Remington 700 is a control feed action or push feed. I don't know so I thought I'd ask. I can also bring the bolt in to work and show it to him and he can tell me but I thought someone on here would know.

Thanks,

Mike

Push feed versus controlled feed was not the problem with that round though...if it was shot in another rifle and was not resized, or neck sized only, it might have been too tight for the chamber of your son's rifle, or if when it was sized, or when the bullet was seated, if the brass got deformed, it might have done the same thing.

A controlled feed bolt, might have made it easier to extract the shell..then again, it might have made it harder as well. I've seen people break off their bolt handles trying to eject a stuck shell.

Hoofan,

It has only been fired in that rifle and reloaded at the most twice. I'll check with the guy that reloaded it and see if he resized the whole brass or just the neck. Thanks!

I will NEVER shoot reloads I did not load myself. This has always been my policy. Even if I know the person doing the reloading.....chris3

I'm going to take a guess that the OAL of the cartridge is too long. I noticed my friend's 700 is on the short side and cases usually need trimmed after every firing.

If that isn't the problem the bullets are seated out to far.
