I've just ordered up a Remington 700 SPS Varmint to be my next project and roommate for my Savage 10FLP. It's chambered in .308 and will be built into an M40A1 clone, so that means McMillan Fiberglass.

Just wondering if anyone on the boards has one of these. I didn't get a good look at the rifle because it had to be ordered. I'm kind of curious about parts interchange. Namely the trigger guard and floor-plate. If the SPS hardware will transfer over to the McMillan when I get it. So far no word from the company.

I imagine that the floor-plate and trigger guard will probably be similar to what is used on BDLs. But not too sure.

I've only ever seen one of those rifles. I bought the 700 VSF (left handed) shown below. It is a VERY sweet rifle. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours whatever stock you choose to put on it.

Remington 700 SPS (Savage Plastic Stock) Varmint in .308.

$508 ($532 out the door).
$450 for the stock, don't know, not ready to order yet.
$??? don't know on the optics.
Want a pic rail and good rings.

Read a little about the SPS series. Heard talk that it was to be a synthetic stocked version of the ADL. Also heard that the stock was kinda flimsy like on a Savage. Pricing was a little less than my Savage.

Oh well, it's going to be a project gun.

P.S. YodaVader. Checked out that very article before I posted earlier. small world.

I have one of the older Varmit specials, vintage 1971 in .223. I got it then when I was a young Air Force Officer and could shoot scrounged ammo.

Actually the ADL series were not equipped with a floorplate magazine like the BDL or SPS. And later models of the ADL were also equipped with synthetic stocks too. Appears the SPS simply took the place of the ADL line.
