I bought a 700 VLS in .223 a while back and was wanting to adjust the trigger (it is way to hard right now), free float the barrel, and bed the action. I could probably do these things myself, but I've never attempted them and I have a lot going on right now. Does anyone have an idea what it would cost to have these done by a gunsmith?

Is there any technical reason why Remington would not have free floated the barrel originally? Strengths of the material?

Its easy to free float the barrel. just take some sand paper to the inside of the barrel channel until you get a dollar to go in between in barrel and stock. (there are some sites that will give you detailed instructions if you just google it.)
The trigger I just had mine done and it cost me 20 buck. That is unusually cheap so I would expect to pay around 40 or so.
I would not bed the action. Any accuracy gained will be minimal a best. That is really only for bench shooters.
