I have one in 308,but it doesn't have the brake and it's a full 24 inches long.Cabela's sold some of them like that rather than the shorter version that loses 2 inches of barrel length for the brake. The triangular shape kinda makes it almost as light as a sporter barrel and almost as accurate as a heavy barrel.I like it because I can put it in a B&C Medalist stock and use it like a heavy barrel long range rig,or put in the Tupperware stock and lighten it up for hunting. It's a very accurate rifle as long as I watch getting the barrel hot.It cools down quick,I think the shape acts like cooling fins on a small engine.I also had one in 223 with the brake, and that one wouldn't shoot good at all.It got replaced by a Shilen Match grade and it is one of the most accurate rifles I've ever had.The factory stocks on the VTR's aren't much force, too flimsy, comb too low and thin and not stable in the bedding area.My 308 will shoot half inch groups at 100 if I take my time and it's in the B&C stock.
