So I just got back from the 100yd range. I brought my Remington 710 and M1A. The 710 shot pretty nicely. So far I've put about 120 rounds through it and it's worked as well as can be expected for a $300 rifle w/ cheapy scope. Ive heard a lot of doom and gloom about this rifle.. Im expecting it to explode soon :)

Im a little bummed about my M1A though. Last time I took it out, it was having failure to extract problems every 20 rounds or so.. it would fire the round, but the casing would be still in the chamber :( .. I called SA and they reccomend cleaning it really good and if it's still doing it, then call back so I can send it in for repair.

So today, on my first shot.. it goes bang, and the case is still in the chamber :( I was able to get it out with my fingernail, and the rest of the box of ammo fired fine though. Wierd. Im gonna send it in anyway.
I should have used a target with a black bullseye because with the targets I had, you cant see anything at 100yds with iron sights.. Here's how it shot with me just trying to shoot the middle of a big white rectangle :)

Oh yea, as I was leaving... I noticed a crate on the floor. And look what was in said crate....

I thought I had missed out on this stuff. I couldnt believe a local range would have it just sitting out for sale ;)

Is that surpluss Indian? If so, I've found you're problem. Stay away from Indian with an M1A. Mine did the exact same thing yours is doing with Indian.

Accuracy has never been an issue with the 710, most folks have a problem with the rifle being so cheaply made and being the same price as a Savage 110 with Accutrigger and more expensive than the better-made Stevens or Mossberg. I'm sure the design has the potential to be plenty accurate.

Howdy,

You might want to try ordering a USGI extractor and spring before you send your rifle off. It's going to cost you 20 bucks, but shipping will cost that much, and you'll have your rifle at hand. This might not fix it, but it prolly will. Just a thought.

You mind me askin' how much that SA set you back? :)

Lol.. is it Indian? I asssumed it was South African. I bought as a I was leaving the range I havent tried it out yet. I was shooting Winchester Super X ammo today.. the last time it was messing up, I was shooting American Eagle and Remington Core-Lokt..

EDIT: yea.. I think it's SA. It's marked just like this

Yea.. I was reading on the M14 forums and a number of people have had the same problem and fixed it themselves with USGI parts. I'm just concerned that doing any work myself would invalidate the factory warranty...

I the rifle from a local gun shop.. It's a fiberlgass "loaded" model w/ stainless barrel.. $1550

Your ammo is South African. I've also done well with Aussie...

The extraction problem is interesting. Are there any marks or metal tears on the cartridge case rim? If so, check your chamber carefully with a glass for corrosion damage or roughening (saw one that had been scratched by firing sandy ammo) that will grab the case and cause extraction difficulties.

What kind of commercial ammo are you using? What weight bullet etc.?

Try the 7.62X51 NATO surplus and see how that works in the rifle. See if it behaves any different.

If you don't want to send it to SA, try the extractor idea above.
