I have a Remington 710 chambered in 7mm RM. Before I indicate my concern I'll provide a little bit of info about the 710. It has a 3 lug bolt that locks directly into the barrel rather than the reciever, as like most other BA's do. So it appears to be a very strong action design and has proven to be even more so, after what happened a couple of years ago.
I was out of town and my 23 yr. old Son decided to go shooting with it using my reloaded ammunition. Not paying attention to the box of ammunition he grabbed, he loaded a .270 win. round into the chamber and pulled the trigger. When he ejected the spent brass it fell out in pieces, literally. He didn't shoot any more rounds after that mis-hap because he didn't know what had caused the problem. But when I came home I immediately identified the cause. I then carefully inspected the bolt and chamber exspecting to find extensive damage, but after I checked the head space I found it was still the same, (.0025") as when I bought the rifle. The only area of concern was, the bolt face was set back in the exact diameter of the .270 win. head by .00053", not very much, just a barely visable circle on the face left by the .270 win. cartridge head. Since that incident I have continued to shoot the firearm inspecting the brass carefully after each round and nothing unusual has resulted. Accuracy is still tight as well. I'm guessing it was a lucky mis-hap in that nothing bad happened, and the firearm had the integrity to sustain the explosion.
Long story short, I honestly think the design of the 710 action is much stronger than it's reputation has portrayed it to be.
