I know this has been mentioned before in different threads, but I have a broken bolt shroud on my Remington 710. I have called Remington and I have to send it in to them because the firing pin assembly, which the shroud is molded on to, is "restricted." I really don't want to pay a crapload for shipping and repair, and Remington will just replace it with another plastic one. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix it? I know gamemaster said in a different thread that with a little smithing he was able to get his to work without the shroud. Does anybody have any pictures or ideas on how to tackle this?

I've already run the serial number and it doesn't fall under the recall... I'm bombarding their facebook page as we speak. The "reason" that it has to be sent in is because they claim that the headspace will be affected by changing the firing pin assembly. I explained to them that I will be using the same bolt carrier and the same bolt face so headspace won't be affected, and I get "blah, blah, blah, it's restricted..."

Unless they repair 710's by throwing the broken bolt away and slipping a new bolt in.

I don't think you have any option in getting it fixed short of sending it back to Remington.

There are no parts available anywhere I checked, because they didn't make them very long.
And as a restricted part, they never sold them through Brownell's or the other usual suspect gunsmith parts suppliers.

Is there any way to make a fix of the firing pin with a broken plastic shroud
