Hello!

I was just curious as to whether or not aftermarket bolts exist for the Reminton 721 rifles. Are the 700 and 721 bolts interchangeable?

In addition, is there a good cheek rest/pad that will fit the Remington 721 without getting in the way of the bolt?

Thanks for your help!

No aftermarket that I'm aware of. The 700 and 721 bolts aren't interchangeable per say, but the 700 bolt will fit the 721. Not the other way around though. The lugs on the 721 are bigger. However, a 700 bolt should drop right in to a 721 that is of course if it's a long action 700. If I was going to go that route, I might have a gunsmith build up the lugs for a nice tight fit, i.e. have them make them the same size as the 721 lugs. However it's the rear bearing surface that really matters that there's enough there. If they're fully engaged against the action, then it shouldn't matter. After that, it's just a matter of checking/setting headspace and you are probably good to go. I'd definitely run it through a qualified gunsmith though just to be sure everything goes together as it should.

If you've got a 721 with a missing or damaged bolt, you might try Numrich. They might have them.

For more detailed info, get an accound on the Accurate Reloading forum and post this in the gunsmith section. You'll get a similar answer to what is above, plus a wealth of additional knowledge I'm sure.
