I like Remington 722,s and have five, this .300 savage was number five and came on a deal(trade with a friend) with a realy bubbed stock that his uncle had done and he didn,t think much of it, but I saw a diamond in the so called rough and and offered a trade that he accepted. first thing I did was rid it of that chewed up stock and went on the hunt for stock, I found one that had about 3/4" chopped of the butt and needed cleaned up. I had a original butt plate in a junk box and ground it to fit and cleaning it up. as the bore in in ex condition and the rest of the metal is in very good condition also, I mounted a older clear 4x frontier redfield on it. i put on my hunting coat and found that the 3/4" shortened stock was no problem in seeing thru the scope when bringing up to my shoulder. if I find another full factory I will replace the one in have on it now. ps, I have a original rear sight, I will put on it.

It was a .222 and it freshened to .223 Wylde and recrowned 11 degree cone , I shoot cheap M193 ball in it. mostly and some 40 grain home made varmint loads. I pulled the scope off a surplus police 700 pss when I put a new Vortec 6-25 Viper on it. This works great on the 722 as it has fine duplex . Note the bolt work :)

You can also mark me as a member of the 722 fan club. I occasionally take each of these three to the range to remind myself that Remington knew how to make superbly accurate rifles way back then. From top: .222 Mag., "B" Grade .222, and .257 Roberts still topped with original US made B&L 8X variable. Which, then, as now, was a killer combination. DSC_0102.JPG

OFFHAND, your 222 rem mag is a transition model that was made very late at the time the 700,s were coming out and bring more money to Remington collectors as not many were made. one of two of my 722,s in 257 Roberts is a transition model with out the rear barrel sight bump.

not really , only trouble is widening trigger guard area and hogging out a bit of wood forward of the "cassette " . I used an older curved trigger one I bought cheap on Ebay.
