Hi everybody, I just picked up Remington 760 carbine in .280 Remington. serial number 359xxx the wood is in good shape and the bluing is decent. I would like any info you can give me on this rifle. I purchased it because I couldn't find any left handed rifles for this years deer and elk season and really liked how this little rifle handles and should make a handy truck gun I picked it up for 250. Also I would like to know the twist rate and what bullet weights this rifle prefers? any opinion from 760 owners? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

model 760 is a great rifle mine is 3006 rifle not carbine, it is a tack driver with my reloads. the barrel is free floated so if you are living right it should be a tack driver also. i have a 7mm08 TC venture it likes 140 rem core locts in my reloads. you probably won't have a lot of choices for factory ammo in 280 but i don't know for sure. $250 is an excellent price.

good luck

A good factory load for the 280 Carbine has been the 165 Gr SP Rem Core Lokt. I use Hornady 154 Gr Interlock bullets for my reloads and they have performed equally well.
I doubt you will be disappointed with the gun as my family has accumulated a number of them and they have taken their share of deer, elk and bear.
If by chance you are unhappy with it PM me, I'm always looking for a good carbine.

Can't speak to the .280; mine's a .308. But Timney's "trigger fix" kit for the Rem 870 will work in the 760 too, and it really improves the trigger.

My Gamemaster in .30-06 is fun to shoot. If you plan to shoot crates of ammo with it, I would suggest a nice recoil pad. Mine has a metal but plate and it feels kind of hard half way through the second box of ammo. Easy to disassemble for cleaning and to reassemble afterwards. Should I ever use it for hunting, I would definitely chamber a round and roll with the safety on (I usually do not have one in the chamber when walking) because it makes a lot of noise when I rack it and and I do not believe in racking quietly: that is how trouble happens. Ten rounds mags are available in .30-06, maybe is it also an option for you, you could search some if you have interest for those. Enjoy your shooting!

280 Remington

No 760, but had a Remington 7400 in 280, it was a tack-driver. I shot 130's for Antelope, 150's for Deer, and 175's for Elk.
Never got an Elk, but flattened Deer & Antelope like a hammer. Hated to see it go, but it sat for a few years and now
someone else can do the same with it as I did!

I've had very good luck with my older 760 in .243 on hunts for whitetails, mulies, and 'lopes. Very excellent accuracy combined with fast handling action. Black Hills ammo is TOPS!

tell me more about the timmney triggers for the 760, mine has the original terrible trigger! is this a gunsmith job or something i can do myself??

how much does the timmney trigger cost?

My dad killed a lot of elk deer and antelope with a 760 Game Master carbine in 30-06. It's accurate and reliable and should give you a life time of use if you keep it clean and oiled.

I have a 30-06 and a .270. Both are killers.

My only complaint is the lack of sling mounts. I installed mine which of course required a barrel loop on one end and drilling into the old stock on the other. I only did the .30-06 as the .270 is a family heirloom.

I am left handed as well.

Love the 760; 308 or '06.
Get a muzzle guard as all your cleaning will be from there.

Would love to round out my group with a first-year 243...
