Not many people buying Remington these days-----I did buy a couple 870 Express' last fall and they are pretty good guns----but still wouldn't touch a model 700 with a 10ft pole, let alone the el cheapo rifle.

Crazy as this sounds, I wonder if the 783 is better made than the 700, even though it is cheaper. Remington doesn't want to alienate new hunters/shooters. Perhaps the 783 is many peoples' first exposure to Remington.
I believe my economy car is better made than more expensive vehicles of the same brand.
Ks5shooter is right on. I purchased a Venture and out of the box it shot an inch at 100 yds. After break in, using my loads it shoots about 1/2 inch@ 100 yds. I finally got the rebate.
