Has anyone had any experience with the remington 799. I am thinking of getting one in 22 hornet. They are made by zastava for remington and previously for charles daly.

They're decent enough rifles that can be interesting if you like Mauser-style actions. My principal complaints with them have been tiny, toy-like bolt handles and the slow (1:12") twist rates in their 223 offering.

The Remington units are generally several hundred dollars more expensive than the equivilent Daly/Interarms imported units.

I have a Interarms MARK X Mini-Mauser in 7.62x39....I love the little booger. Sweet shooting rifle.

They are well built rifles on a proven action. They do not have the claw extractor that Mausers are famous for tbut hat doesn't seem to be a drawback. Remington uses a nicer looking stock than the previous manufacturers/importers. The stocks I've seen are laminated walnut(I put one on one of my Mauser sporters). IIRC, Remington made the barrels with a 1:12 twist and they seem to work well with 40-55 grn. bullets. They are nice rifles,a little over priced, IMO.

i picked up one in .223 for a project rifle when bass pro shops had them on sale for $385.
remington has discontinued them. the factory trigger on mine was a little rough but a little stone work fixed it up.
i'm doing mine in the prewar british style, kinda like a mickey mouse safari rifle.
i've started reworking the stock to use as a pattern for the duplicator. the grip has been swept back, i added a little bit of cast off & a lot of drop since its going to be open sight rifle. i cut the trigger gaurd in half right in front of the trigger bow & raised the trigger bow .150" to give it the appearance of a drop box, then made a new front section to replace the side latch with an in the bow release. i still have to cut the slot for the release & rework the back part of the floorplate into a straddle type. i replaced the factory trigger with a sako trigger that matches the shape of the triggergaurd. the safety will be moved into an extended rear tang. i'm going to put banded front & rear sights on it that wikll be scaled to fit the rifle & i have a oberndorf style bolt handle for it thats also scaled to fit the rifle that i need to weld on. it will get a charger hump & stripper clip slot & possibly a single rear square bridge. i've cut the side of the receiver for the thumb cut & will do a g33/40 style cut on the left rail to get rid of the lettering & give it a little more mauser style.

i'm going to get another on in .22 hornet for a scaled down version of the rigby style .303 mauser i'm building, a big-n-little matching set.
