A friend has a Charles Daly M70 (Zastava's Mauser before Remington got it and marketed it as the 798) in .30-06. Only thing he doesn't like about is the synthetic stock.

There's a wood stock for a Remington 799 (the varmint version, equivalent to Daly's M85) for sale online. Anybody have examples of both rifles around to determine how feasible it would be to put the .30-06 action in the 799 wood?

I have a 799 and a mauser 30-06, and the 799 is too short an action to fit into the mauser stock just from eyeballing it.

They are completely different. 799 is not a true Mauser. M70 is a commercial 98 Mauser, I tend to think commercial mauser stocks should fit.

The 799 is a completely different rifle with a tiny action and there's no way the stock will fit a full size 798. Fortunately, there are lot of Mauser 98 stocks available.
