I was looking to replace the stock on my Remington 1100 12 gage with one that has a shorter length of pull - 13 or maybe 12 inches.

Any shorter length of pull stock suggestions would be appreciated.

I noticed that some manufactures list both 870 and 1100 for the same stock – Hogue over molded stocks for instance.

Other manufactures seem to list theirs as different/unique.

Are they interchangeable?

Not sure about the 1100, but I am on the shorter side of life and bought a youth stock for my 870. It does give me better handling. Its about an inch shorter that the standard stock. In fact, I wouldn't mind it being even shorter. There are also pistol grip models available.

BTW, I have know others with much more facility than myself to use a jig saw and cut the ends off of the standard synthetic stocks that came with their 870s and then put a molded pad on the end. Above my ability so I just bought a youth stock from Brownells.

The 1100 has the recoil spring in the stock.
Remington makes different stocks for the 870 and the 1100.

Some after-market makers just make one stock to fit both with a large enough recess for the 1100 spring assembly.

The spring on the 1100 or 11-87 stock goes in a hole just like the bolt does on an 870. So, in a word, yes, the butt stocks are interchangable. I had an 1100 youth stock that I installed on an 870 once for someone else to use. Worked fine.

I just put an 870 PG stock on my 11-87 and I needed to sand down where it joins with the gun but other than that tiny little mod it fits perfect.
