Remington 870 Barrel Change

Hi All,

I recently acquired 2 free shotguns from my uncle in law (a Remington 870 and an Ithaca Model 37). I am wanting to replace the current barrel on the 870 with a 18" or 18.5" barrel. I have been looking online for barrels and ran into a question. On Amazon, when I searched for 870 barrels, I came up with an 18.5" barrel (Mossberg Matte Blue Cylinder Bore Barrel w/Front Bead Sight Md: 90015) in my price range (< $100).

Does anyone know if the Md: 90015 will fit my Remington 870? It doesn't say if it does in the product description, but it was my understanding that a lot of Mossberg Barrels are interchangeable with 870 (such as the Mossberg 91335).

I do not believe it will work as that barrel is meant for Mossberg 500's and Maverick 88's.
Mossberg definitely makes quality replacement barrels for the Remington 870 and defintely cheaper than a factory Remington replacement.

No, the Md: 90015 is made for a Mossberg 500. Mossberg does make barrels for the 870 though so make sure the description says it's for a Remington 870.

Is your 870 a Wingmaster or an Express model?

I am not sure if it is an express or wingmaster. These are my first shotguns and don't know the difference (plus I am at work so I can run to my safe... don't tell anyone). Would there be a marking on the receiver? Are the wingmaster and express barrels different?

If you own a Wingmaster the finish on the metal is a gloss blue and clearly says Wingmaster on the receiver.
The Express is a dull matte finish and the receiver will say Express Magnum on it.
The barrels are interchangeable but obviously the barrel color and receiver wont match if they are mixed.

You can also quickly tell that the finish is different. The Wingmaster will be more polished and shiny looking, Expresses have a rougher matte finish. Below are examples of a Wingmaster and two Express models:
