I was looking for a shotgun that I could use for HD/SD that would also have the ability to get consistent hits on a man size target at 50-75 meters; all while not breaking the bank. The Remington 870 Express Tactical has filled that role and done it well.

I didn't bring any slugs for this video but have shot them out of this gun in since and it easily does what I've asked of it (hits on a man size target at 50-75m). Every shotgun barrel shoots different loads differently and this gun is no exception. I've tried two brands of slugs and both shoot high (about 8'' at 50m) while the buckshot loads pattern at point of aim. I don't think it's an issue as long as the shooter is aware and holds low appropriately.

Initially I planned on only posting the shooting portion of this video but I received a lot of negative comments about the Express line of 870 line on the forums when I said I was going to review this gun so I added some content about the differences. I've heard on the forums that Remington's QC has been a little spotty of late but I haven't experienced that myself all....

Anyway, here's the video:

Write up with differences between the Police and Express lineup:

Everybody on the Int3rw3bz knows for certain sure that Expresses will rust shut in a matter of minutes, and if they do work at all then various of their substandard parts will break instantly. And you can't miss with a shotgun... :banghead:

One difference between the 870P and 870 Express HD that wasn't on the list- The 870P lists for $723.00 (http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/Default.aspx?item=24407&mfg=Remington&mdlno=870+Police) while the 870 Express HD goes for $390.00 (http://www.cabelas.com/pump-action-remington-870-8482-express-tactical-defense-shotguns-1.shtml). If the difference in this

and this

is worth the difference in price, go for it...

Just because it is a HD/SD shotgun, does that mean you are required to ONLY shoot it at short distances? I do agree the breacher/muzzle device/choke thing is a little goofy.

50-75 yards? Not exactly a justifiable HD/SD distance

I concur. But if I can get decent groups at that distance it can possibly double as a hunting shotgun.

I don't plan on using it in that role, but I like to test what I can do with my weapons.

And that I concur with, but then you'll need a really good plug for that long mag tube!....;)

Not if he wants it as a deer gun!

I have the same gun and got rid of the breacher and replaced with an IC choke tube. Simple enough.
