Should I sell my PMax (added two Mesa Tactical shell holders) and buy a 590A1 (adding a Surefire light, Mesa tactical shell holder, Knoxx collapsible stock, and have a barrel job done by AimProTactical). They would be about the same price. My brother bought a 590A1 and I noticed on that the shell loader that takes to ammo from the magazine tube to the chamber stays out of the way making it easier to load in a high stress situation or a dark room (worse case senario). The 870 PMax will pinch your finger a little and the spring against the shell loader is pretty tight (I know, I sound like a baby). Any help would be appreciated.

Remington didn't submit a sample under the RFP (request for proposal), thus there wasn't a competition with Remington for that particular contract. All that rahrah about military contracts, and there was no contest with Remington (who had little to gain by winning except bragging rights they didn't need anyway- owning 90+% of the law enforcement market as they do).

Appearances notwithstanding, you'd be awfully hard put to demonstrate that a Mossberg 590 is any tougher than a Remington 870. And if you learn to run shells along the ramp that the 870's trigger guard provides into the loading port (which Mossberg's does not, BTW) with the gun at your shoulder, pushing the shell into the magazine with your thumb and holding the lifter up with your thumb knuckle, pinching becomes a nonissue.

However, if you just like the Mossberg better, go for it. Don't try to talk yourself into believing either one is a better gun because you just happen to like one or the other better. Both are good solid working guns, either one properly cared for will easily outlast the purchaser (but an 870 properly cared for will outlast the purchaser's grandchildren). NOT that I have any bias at all about 870s you understand- I am being COMPLETELY objective here 8^). Hint: the 870 has been around essentially unchanged since 1950, how about the 590?

lpl/nc(not biased, remember 8^)

I've had my Remington 870P MAX for quite some time now, and have fired several different types of buck and slug through her.

I've shot plenty of Mossberg 590A1s and have not been impressed.

The quality and build of the 870P is far superior in my opinion, I'd stick with what you have.

The answer is: You should keep your Remington 870P and buy the Mossberg 590A1, too. That's what I did, except, I got the Mossberg before the Remington.

You know, it's OK for people to have hobbies and collect a few material items...like guns.
