So, if the company that was first developing it puts out an unrealistic release date, that's not vaporware?

And, if the company that then buys the design and puts out their own release date, then starts pushing back that date, then spins it off to another division of the parent company, that's not vaporware?

Now, to be certain, Remington has not missed any of the dates they have set up. However, we're not talking about Remington peddling unwarranted hype, we're talking about the other subsidiary under the same parent company peddling hype, or at the very least missing its delivery dates.

But, if you listen to the marketing people and take them at their word, YOU are at fault for believeing the hype, since you are engaging in
Unwarranted optimism about product development?
Come on. This is absurd.

Listen, I want to like the Masada/ACR/Great_Flat_Dark_Earth_Hope as much as anyone else. But, I first have to have a rifle to like. On paper this is a great design. Magpul makes good stuff. Bushmaster (in its current form) I'm less impressed with, but they have, at least, actually produced guns. Spinning it off to Remington (probably a collaboration between Bushmaster and Remington, actually) is a wise move if you actually anticipate a .mil contract, since they have a proven ability to churn out weapons by the truckload, and Bushmaster knows the M16/AR system. HOWEVER, this doesn't magically erase the fact that the Masada/ACR has been missing release dates for years now. Vaporware is, at this point, a perfectly apt term.

A firearm manufacturer is the polar opposite of a car company...Chevy will release the 2010 model...well, right about now...Remington will release the 2006 model...well, right about now. :p
