My son in law just got himself a used model 700 ADL (no manual). To remove the bolt there's a button in front of the trigger that needs to be pressed.

He pressed it and removed the bolt. The button didn't recover (stayed pressed) and now the bolt just falls out if the action is worked (i.e. pull it back too far).

Is there an easy fix for this or is this normal without taking some other action like pressing another button somewhere else.

He'd also like to know when the thing was made. He bought it from an old guy who claims only 7 shots ever thru the thing but that it was made in '76. The S/N is A6339XXX. Can someone point at a place to get that info or know the manf date based on the S/N?

Inquiring minds want to know.

can't help ya on the date...

on the bolt release problem: there is a spring that runs up to connect the bolt stop to that button. it is either broke or binding. either put your finger in the receiver and push the bolt stop back down (button does not need to be pressed to re-insert bolt) or pull the gun out of the stock, and either re-connect the spring, replace the spring, or clear whatever is binding (i'm thinking it may be a primer).

I lost my manual to my 700ADL and all I did was go on the website and they mailed me a brand new printed one. You can download it too. Of course it is obvious that it is not supposed to be doing what it is. It may be corroded or something who knows. I would pull it off the stock and take a look. Unless you know what you are doing DO NOT try to disassemble that trigger mechanism box....

thanks for the help guys i got the bolt thing fixed the button was just a bit on the dirty side works like a champ now but i would still like some help on the date thanks
