Remington Arms and their new Huntsville, AL facility

Hmmm, I'd heard Bushmasters were being made at the LAR Grizzly plant in Utah, which Remington owns, not Ilion.

* Remington's main production facility (since 1915) is located in Ilion, NY.

* After Remington bought Bushmaster, they closed the Bushmaster facility moved production from Windham, Maine to Ilion, NY.

* Remington (previously "the Freedom Group") also bought LAR Manufacturing. They are moving the contents of that factory to Huntsville, AL.

Kynoch, I'm glad you can think of better places to live than Hunstville... I actually grew up while living on Redstone Arsenal (1960 to 1965 - we moved when my Dad got his first orders for VN... but still lived in Huntsville). It was remarkable that a military post would have miles and miles of fields, forests, and creeks for a kid to roam as he grew up - all right out my back door.... I actually was living on Redstone when they developed and tested the motors used for the first stage of the Saturn that would be used for the moon shots all those years ago...

The "aerospace industry" is hardly the only player in Huntsville. If you went there you might just change your mind... The only reason that I never returned is that it's entirely too far from saltwater... One thing is certain though, Huntsville may have more engineers living there than most towns - and there's no lack of educational opportunities either.... I'm betting that any company looking to find a an educated work force that actually still believes in hard work and quality production would have Huntsville on its short list....

Well, according to what a production consultant that was working for Remington and toured their factories told a friend of mine, he saw Bushmasters being made at LAR.

It was a big deal when the Freedom Group (now just Remington) closed the Bushmaster facility in Windham, MA and moved production to Ilion. Easy to Google.

Huntsville has hideous weather and it's surrounded by what I would term "ignorant and racist old Alabama." I will admit that the space program has had a very positive effect on Huntsville -- one doesn't really know they are in the Deep South while in Huntsville, but they don't have to go far to be reminded.

I thought Rocketdyne in Los Angeles designed/built/tested the engines for that?

That's where it began. I used to travel to Huntsville to do some work with the Intergraph Co. I've been to Huntsville at least a half-dozen times in my life.

..............

:scrutiny:
When were you here last ... 1965?
If you believe that the majority of people here are ignorant and racist, perhaps it's because you're "prejudiced." I wouldn't like to think that is true.

It certainly USED to be so. As I suggested before this is not the Alabama of the 1960s. We're not siccing dogs and waterhosing protestors who are of the wrong skincolor. We're not perfect but then neither is New York City or Detroit, or Los Angelos and all those cities have had historical difficulties arrising from racial styereotypes.

As for the weather ... wanna do something about it?:scrutiny:;)

Yep, two things you can't do anything about, the weather and the SEC fans. It's sub-tropical here, but the summer is a little shorter.

Sounds like Rohrbaugh is still going to the Pineville, NC plant.
