Recently found small derringer in my late fahers stuff. where would I fiind info about it? It is marked E REMINGTON AND SONS, ILION, NY.
ELLIOTS PATENT DEC 12, 1865. IT HAS 2 ROUNDS WITH IT AND THEY APPEAR TO BE 41 CAL. HOW DO I USE A MICROMETER TO GAUGE SIZE???

What a nice find. I'd love to have a Remington derringer. It is .41 cal. rimfire. Unfortunately, nobody makes ammo for this little gem. Some Brazilian manufacturer made a run of ammo several years ago, but that has been long gone. Your find is worth some money and the amount will vary widely depending on condition. The hinge is the weak point and many are found with loose or busted or repaired hinges. So be gentle with yours. Check out Gunbroker for an idea of what they are going for currently.

These guns had a long market life. They weren't discontinued until well into the 20th century. Do a google search. There should be much information available.

Hello friends and neighbors // Outstanding find.
With the 1865, in .41rf it could be a type 1, one of 300-400, pretty rare.

If it is like my Elliots ring trigger derringer the hammer and spring may break when dry fired.

Try Wiki or the historical area of Remington's website for info.

Thanks to owlhoot for the info. I'm not a gun guy, so i would like to sell my derringer. It has what appears to be hard rubber grips, no cracks at the hinge and number 442 stamped inside. Since ebay doesn't allow arms, what sites will allow me to sell this?

Hello friends and neighbors // If you call Remington they can date it for you, making the Derringer easier to value. 800-243-9700,,,prompt 7 for DOB type info.

There is a buy and sell handgun area here, just start a thread, pics usually help.
Maybe look over a few others and check the rules before formating/posting.
I think mainly your State and Price as well as Description of the item are necessary.
