I have a Remington model 14 in 35 Rem. It has a scope that is mounted atop the receiver but a blank is in place of the front blade and rear sight.
I have found wheel sights, and a peep sight that can be mounted to the rear of the receiver which has two raised screws present.
I would really just like to not spend that kind of money because I would be lucky to get either for under $125.00.

So what I'd like to know is what other quality buckhorn with elevator or ramp adjustments would be proper
and
what height brass bead sight to look for that matches.

I used the calipers at the base of the dovetails and best I can tell, the front measures .372 and the rear .396.
There is a slot further to the rear but not using a wheel elevation sight, it can be ignored as that's the way they are.
I know I can get some iron sights put on this for a lot better price than the originals in a decent quality.
Thanks

Does the gun have the "Thumbnail" safety? That is a sliding, grooved, piece in the bolt that you can slide up and down. If it does , the gun's value is doubled. They are quite rare.

I would also advise Numeric to find a rear sight. Maybe Brownell's might have something. I'm guessing, but a Model 141 rear sight is probably interchangeable

I chatted online with Brownells and have to call 1-800-741-0015 on Monday for the right parts as replacements.Tech couldn't help. Numeric has the schematic but has no sights listed for the part numbers for sale. Thanks guys.

and No, It has the crossover push button safety.

$125 would be a good price for the Lyman receiver mounted aperture sight, but then you would have no windage adjustment except for what is available with the front blade sight. To use the "wheel" rear sight I think you would need two dovetails, which your gun might or might not have. I ordered a white bead front replacement sight for my 141 (newer than yours) from Brownells and it worked fine. So, is it your intent to remove the scope?

sigsmoker, I have a model 14 which I consider dangerous and unsafe to fire. Some bubba has modified the gun somehow and you can pump it with the trigger held back. When you release the trigger the damn thing goes off!!! I haven't shot it in years.

If you will send me a personal message with an address, I will GIVE you the front and rear sights. I will never shoot the thing again, anyway, and if I decide to return it to service I can make new sights. The gun is a 30 Remington instead of a 35, but I doubt that will make much difference.

I never liked that buckhorn rear sight anyway.

Stiab - I may remove the scope. I will have that option anyways. It isn't mounted on the side of the receiver like some are so a few flush screws on top wont look too bad if I do. I think having the sights on it will be OK with the scope still attached which just makes me feel like my rifle is at least complete. This rifle shoots really well and I like making my deer shots close and under 100 yds most of the time a lot closer. I am not in the greatest of health to drag a deer or track one so my shots are good with iron sites. I have several good vintage rifles for deer that knocks em down on the spot. I like a double seater tree stand close to the cabin.

sigsmoker, I think my PM went through, but if it didn't: The sights will be sent tomorrow Via Fed Ex. You are very welcome to them . The rifle they are currently on is dangerous and unsafe and is never fired anyway.

enjoy

This is the sort of thing to pay forward. :)

Yes, quite a nice thing to do. Really made my day! I did get the PM and replied Tark. First class all the way. Thanks again!

no praise is due. A simple favor. My gun is worthless in its current state, anyway. Is far as I'm concerned those buckhorn sights are worthless in the first place, but at least the gun won't look half naked anymore!

Got the sites :)

AMAZING! Fed-Ex delivered this package from Tark today with this beautiful vintage set of sights for me. It's even a wheel elevator!
Thank you Tark! Thank you very much.

Tark, which direction, holding the rifle in a firing position and looking over the rifle, do I drift these blanks out for front and rear? L to R or R to L?

I knocked the sights out left to right with the gun in the position you mentioned which means you need to do the same with the blanks.

As for the sights, both of them were very tight and the front was a real you know what. The dovetails in the barrel are uniform but the sights are almost certainly tapered, a tiny bit . They must enter the dovetail small end first. A nylon punch won't cut it. You must use a brass or aluminum punch, or a cartridge case. 223 works fine The hammer will mash the neck and shoulder but who cares? Also, the barrel must be rigidly supported, soft vise pads won't cut it. Use leather or hardwood.

good luck

Thanks L to R as you did. Great directions too. I'll get a round tuit. :)
