remington model 14 in 44-40

a couple of guys brought me a Remington model 14 in 44-40 to take apart and look at and they said they fired 44 rem. magnum rounds in. looking at the way the gun was built I said no way was this built in the 60's when the 44 mag was being developed. It said on the barrel 44 rem then under that it said 44 WCF which I always figured was a 44-40. so I looked it up and it was a 44-40. they said it did not kick that much and was not loud. I saw they were reloads and luck would have it the guy must have loaded them light. I have never saw a gun marked 44 rem in 44-40
