I'm trying to get my Grandfathers old Remington model 34 up and running again. After taking the bolt apart for cleaning I started getting light firing pin strikes. After disassembly it appears that I drove the rear bolt retaining pin through the spring. (firing pin spring) After I get a new spring, what is the proper way to reassemble one of these bolts?

I'm not real familiar with it.

But I suspect you might need to make a short slave spin to hold it together.

Once in the bolt, drive the shorter slave pin out with the longer real pin.

Thanks rcmodel. I ordered the parts from Numrich, so it'll be a few Weeks before they are here.

The parts came from Numrich. Here they are.

When I install the spring I don't see how to put the pin through the spring.

Any ideas anyone?

Still looks like what I guessed before would work.

You need to make short slave pins out of steel or brass stock, just the length of the O.D. of the internal striker assembly.
Compress the spring, and assemble it with the slave pins.

Then put it in the bolt and drive the short slave pins out with the real full length pins.

That keeps the spring compressed in place till the real pins are in place so you wan't drive a pin through the new spring again.

Thanks for the link, but I already have an owners manual.

The spring and the spring pilot pin and cap arrangement doesn't make sense the way they are lined up. Where does the cross pin fit in?

That's what I can't understand either.

Update.....rcmodel was correct. I made a slave pin out of a old drill bit shank and it went right together. I'll have to find a new spring though.
