Remington Model Seven

Anybody ever used the Remington Model Seven? I am thinking about doing some trading to get one for my wife in 7mm-08. She loves the feel of the rifle and the weight and length are perfect for her small frame. I think it will be a fine first deer rifle for her. I just need some outside input. Thanks in advance guys.

I bought a Model 7 Stainless 7mm-08 several years ago to use as a 'rain rifle' backup to my 'pretty' Sako 30-06. Now the Sako rarely gets out of the safe and the Model 7 has become my primary deer rifle. It has successfully bagged dozens of deer. It is handy, light, and I just don't worry about it.

Downside? It is probably not as easy to shoot accurately as my Sako due to its light weight, but still shoots fine. And with that light weight, comes significant recoil. It kicks as much as the Sako 30-06 does (or feels like it). I would have your wife try one first, and realize that the same rifle in .243 might be a better choice for a light framed shooter (especially if we are talking about recreationaly shooting).

I have used a mod 7 in 7mm-08 for deer hunting for the last 15yrs. I will never use anything else!!. It is IMHO the best deer rifle made as it is short carbine length, easy to carry, and VERY!! accurate. Last year i took a large buck at about 225 yds 1 shot right behind the ear and dropped him in his tracks!!(didnt want him to jump the neighbors fence line). Buy the mod 7 for your wife!! 7-08 is an excellent round, very flat shooting and more than enough for deer sized game. And it wont beat the hell out of her when she pulls the trigger.

My wife wants one too...It wouldn't be her first rifle by any means, but it would be her first bolt-action...However, I personally think you should really consider getting it in .260 rem. A truly outstanding round. and the longer the shot, the better it looks, comparatively speaking, against almost anything available in that rifle without major recoil.

I got one recently in .260 Remington, stainless with a composite stock, and I must say I just love it. Light, well balanced, good trigger, and a GREAT shooter, very accurate. I could have had the same gun in 7-08, which would have been just fine; I got the 260 because I'm into reloading 6.5 calibers. I have another Model 7 (sort of), the Guide Gun in .350 Remington Magnum -- ribbed barrel, laminate stock, iron sights -- and that too is a very competent rifle. So I guess I'm a believer.

I sell a lot of Remington model Sevens in 7m/m-08, here in Alabama. As
stated, it makes for an excellent deer rifle under normal conditions~!

She won't be shooting it a WHOLE lot, but I do expect her to shoot it more than just a couple times a year. Recoil is a factor for her. I like the .260, but ammo is hard to come by around here. She loves the feel of the gun, so I know she is getting a Model 7. We just gotta figure out what caliber. Thanks for all the help.

The 7-08 with factory remington loads is a soft recoil rifle. I am small stature about 150lbs and can shoot it all day.

the remington seven chambered to 7-08 w/ a leupold vx-3 2.5-8 in talley lightweights... a finer deer killing system does not exist.

It's good to hear all these rave reviews. Guy in the gun store has continued to try and talk me out of it in favor of a Model 700. A cheaper Model 700 I might add. He is asking $535 for the a NIB Model Seven Synthetic. Is this a good price?
