The R-1. The Auto-Ordnance is a little more true to the original A1, but it's just not the same quality. Of course, it's a bit cheaper, too; R-1's are about $750 these days.

I looked at the AO several times, tried to convince myself to get it, but the horror stories I read about them time and time again kept me from taking the plunge. In Sept., I bought an R-1 standard, and I love it. It shot low as purchased, but Remington sent me a new front sight free of charge. 2 minutes with an allen wrench, it's now dead-on.

The R-1 gives you the classic look, but with important upgrades, like the flared ejection port and a stainless barrel and bushing.

AO has been bought out by Kahr (IIRC). Quality might be better on those pistol than before but the old AO were very close to junk. Every problem imaginable. I would buy the Remington hands down over an old AO. I can not make that statement about the later AO because I have no direct experience.

I think even the new Auto-Ordnance 1911s will not feed HPs reliably. You might also consider one of the imported 1911s if the budget is tight (RIA and Cimarron are pretty nice Armascor produced 1911s). I would say the quality of the RIA and the Cimarron is above an Auto-Ordnance. Of the choices you listed, the R-1 for sure.

The R-1 is nice, Bought a Springfield Stainless after (the one made in US, made sure of that), and the R-1 fed everything I fed it right our of the box. Empty cases, too!

I liked it enough that the Springfield Target model got sold, and the R-1 got a Wilson upgrade...

Along with Armscor Rock Island Armory 1911's isn't the High Standard 1911 also made by RIA and almost the same gun as the RIA 1911's or an equivalent?

Is Auto Ordinance a completely different company than Para-Ordinance which makes that compact .45 ACP 1911 Warthog?

I had heard that Para-Ordinance had very poor customer service especially with their compact 10 shot .45 1911 Warthog. Again perhaps Para-Ordinance is a different company that Auto Ordinance which is now taken over by Kahr.

Between the two above companies which one makes the Thompson .45 ACP carbine?
Is it Auto Ordinance?

Yes, that is Auto-Ordnance.

I'm not sure about the High Standard, but I know the RIAs and the Cimarrons have a good reputation and are made in the Philippines by Armscor. They both have a better reputation than the US made Auto-Ordnance. I have also heard decent things about the ATIs which I think are also Philippines made.

Yes it is Auto Ordnance.

Did you see the link I gave you earlier. Here it is again.

thanks chief. Got it boss:)
I remember back in 1974 when you could buy a Thompson for $150. The AR-15 was $300 and that was without all of these restrictions we have now. The two above guns are probably banned here in the Republik.

Yes, that is Auto-Ordnance.

I heard that somewhere that someone sent their High Standard 1911 to Armsor in Nevada for repair.

I have heard excellent reports on the RIA 1911 .45 ACP pistols.

Armscor makes:

- Rock Island Armory
- High Standard
- Cimmaron

Shooters Arms (SAM) makes:

- ATI

It is the exact same pistol, built in the same factory by the same people. It has a different rollmark, but that's it.
The High Standard 1911 is about the same price if not a little less than the RIA but at this time its difficult to purchase any of these handguns because of the frenzy buying going on.
