hey guys so I'm having trouble even finding my antique online... I don't know the model of the shotgun and don't currently have it in my sights.. I'm going to have it appraise so I can have it insured properly due to family heirloom, it is a 1860 Remington 12 gauge shotgun.. Never seen anything like it due to the fact that it uses and hammer to fire it but you load it through a latch.... Anyone happen to have knowledge of said shotgun?

Remington did not make a shotgun until 1873. This was the Side by Side Model 1873 Hammer Lifter. These would be worth as little as $200 as high as $3,000 if a Grade 3 in 100% condition which is unlikely.

Not sure what you have as your description is not clear as I don't understand what you mean by loading through a latch. If it is a Hammer Double Barrel and you push a latch to break it open then it could be an 1882, 1885, 1887, or 1889.

If it is one these older Doubles then you definitely have to get it appraised by a Professional as prices depend on Model, "Grade" and condition. For example an 1889 grade 1 in 10% condition is worth as little as $200 and only good for hanging over a fire place for show. An 1889 Grade 7 in 100% (unlike any exist in that condition) would be worth over $21,000.
