It's not an urban myth. I had it happen to me. It wasn't one of these new models - it was a stock 870 cut to 18 1/4" with a pistol grip that I was repairing for a buddy. As I was walking across the street to my residence a cop lit me up and confiscated it telling me it was illegal. The next day I had to go down to the station with a tape measure and show the Chief it was over 18". He gave it back but kept muttering "That OUGHT to be illegal..." A lot of cops don't really know all of the laws and also don't carry tape measures on their belt. All I'm saying is you just never know how different people will react to seeing a cut down shotgun. You might want to keep a really short shotgun in a case out of sight just to avoid any hassle.

Well, I am a Police Officer, and one that knows the gun laws. One should also know their rights. The taking of your shotgun was not only illegal, but a violation of your rights. You could have sued the city for the actions of the officers. Most likely they would have settled out of court and you could have bought a truckload of new shotguns.

FYI, The KSG is the same length as the Shockwave/Tac14 but holds 14+1 rounds, has a 14.5" barrel I believe, and you can shoulder it. .

The ksg has an 18.5" barrel. If it had a 14.5" and a shoulder stock, it would be a SBS.

They do make a SBS KSG. If I remember right this one was right at 13”. It was fun to shoot, but it is much heavier then the TAC14 and the balance is not as good.

I might have miss remembered the actual length. I watched dozens of reviews, one of which was a Shockwave vs KSG. I am sure about the fact the reviewer mentioned the barrel was longer, but the overall size was the same. The tac14 is listed at 5.6lb and the KSG is at 6.9. Not too big of a difference, but the extra ammo will no doubt make it much heavier.

The outside as well as every last one of the dozens of inside ranges near me don't allow shotguns with pistol or bird grips. One range use to, but recently banned them... If not for that, I'd probably would have purchased a Tac14 as well. I just wouldn't be able to shoot it.

How is the recoil on the TAC-14?

I'm thinking of getting a HD shotgun in the near future (I currently have no shotguns at all). My home is on the small side, so something handy like this gun might be a good choice.

My CX4 Storm in 9mm is my current HD long gun, which is nice and compact.

With the Aguila mini shells it’s just fun to shoot. With 2 3/4 reduce recoil 00 Buck it’s still easy to handle. Full power loaded kick like hell.

Try the Herter''s Mini buck. 2 1/4" long, 6 pieces of 00 Buck, and feed in any pump gun I've tried them in without any adapter. Lower recoil helps tremendously with control. Also only 50-60 cents a round vs about $1 for the Aquila.

Anything hit with 6 pieces of 00 Buck will swear it git hit by 9.

Just went and picked my Remington TAC-14, looking forward to trying it out when work slows down. I plan on putting a minimalist handstop and a light on it.

Eventually, I’ll put the +1 extension on it as well as some internal upgrades such as an aftermarket extractor.

For $260 shipped I couldn’t pass it up. I’m sure it’ll be fun to shoot, and will make for a good compact defense gun.

Where do you get the +1 extender from?

Joe

Or

But to install them you have to remove the dimple from the magazine tube, by either swaging it out or drilling the dimple out, people do it both ways. There is homemade ways to swage it out or a swaging tool that can be purchased.

I looked at the plus one extensions, but just can't see paying $45 plus just to add one round. I keep mime loaded in my bedroom, but it's manly a range toy.
