I was at Wallyworld a few days ago, and they had .45 Auto 230 gr. JHP, 100-round "Value Packs", for $36. Seemed like a good price, only $2 more per 100 than the FMJ, so I picked up a couple boxes.

So whats the general opinion of Remington UMC JHP's?

I usually carry Hornady TAP in my Springfield 1911, but at this price I figured that the Rem UMC was worth a try. Worst case, I end up using it at the range.

I've used quite a bit of it in 9mm. They use quality hollow points but the powder is very dirty and the 9mm had a HUGE muzzle flash. I switched to WWB. It is much cleaner and has much less muzzle flash. One of my weapons would not however shoot WWB accurately where it shot very well with the UMC.

IMO, from best to worst in dirty, accuracy, smoke,

CCI Blazer
WWB
UMC

I've done casual tests of each and these are my results.

I was curious about those. I shot a box of them in .40 they were accurate & cycled the gun fine. But there was a huge muzzle flash and they are loaded hot. I think the bullet is probably just an older hp design. Don't think they are what I would want in a defensive situation but I do believe they would work.
