I been wanting a new semi 12ga for several months and I was first looking at the stoeger m3500 but I not a big fan of the interia my last semi is a gas and I really like the way it shoot a old charles daly that I paid way to much for and now a friend wants it and I am going to sell it to him. He not the shoot like I am so I want something else. I been really looking at the versa max I have heard good about it. I been mostly looking at the sportsman version but I haven't not rule out the regular versa max. I am just needing advice thanks

Everyone who likes them will say get it, and the Beretta guys will say get a Beretta, and the Browning guys will say get a Browning, and the Benelli guys....etc., etc. I advise you to try to read some unbiased reviews and make up your own mind.
The VersaMax, The Maxus, the Benellis, the SX3s, the Berettas, and the Mossbergs all seem to pretty much work. There are differences and some people go ballistic over little things like where a safety is and such, but I have shot them all and I could care less where the safety is or where it ejects as long as it works and fits me well enough to get hits.
A VersaMax is a soft shooter, but it is not a lightweight. It is adjustable if you get the more expensive version and I found it points well.
If you do not need 3-1/2" capability you might want to look at the new Remington V3. It is not even on the shelves yet but it is getting rave reviews, and some are saying it may be the next 1100 - which is saying something since the 1100 is the most successful semi auto in history in terms of guns sold.

I have to agree with the Virginian, if you do not need the 3 1/2" capability I would look at another gun. The Versa Max is one big gun. Unless you are shooting steel shot a 3" chamber will get the job done. Friends of mine have 3 1/2" chambered guns. They have discovered that finding a better stand is more effective than a 3 1/2" load.

If you are recoil sensitive I would look at the Versa Max. A very soft shooting shotgun.

I do not still have any shotguns newer than about 1984. My waterfowl gun is a Remington 1100 Magnum circa 1966. I would not recommend it for someone who wants flexibility, but it works extremely well for me. I do not need 3-1/2" capability because I shoot tungsten instead of steel. And I have other guns for other things. In short I do not need a new gun at all.
If they made a VersaMax in polished finish with walnut stock, I would have bought one. I really like the way they shoot. I am really interested in the new V3, and after I get to actually see one I may take the jump.
