I have a new Remington with the XMark trigger in it. It is a decent trigger but when I adjust it out the pull will not go below 4lbs in fact it really does not change at all. Remington will fix it but they said the lowest the new ones will go is 3.5 lbs. Has anyone had this problem and would I be better off getting a different trigger for it and if so what kind?
Thanks

I put Timneys on friends' 700s, and highly recommend them. There is so much difference between the X-Mark and the Timney.

What is your intended purpose? For a hunting rifle 4 lbs. is fairly standard and anything below 2.5 lbs. boarders on dangerous for certain situations. Evaluate your usage and decide if the money is well spent or not.

As for brand Timney and Rifle Basix make very good triggers. I chose the Rifle Basix and ordered directly. This allowed me to specify trigger pull weight and it shipped the same day. Very happy so far. The X-Mark requires a different trigger than the standard 700 offering so be sure of what you order if you do replace it. I would shoot it for a while before deciding whether it needs replacing.

After having spent a lot of time shooting with the likes of Timney, Geissele and Wilson triggers, I just couldn't stick with the X-Mark. It isn't just about pull weight. I'll take a crisp, clean 4lb trigger over an X-Markish 3lb trigger any day. I don't think that money is ever wasted on a good trigger. I went with the Timney. I like everything about it,except that it is wider than I would have preferred.

My R 700 Youth in .243 had the older walker type trigger. It feels fine to me maybe bec Im used to hard triggers with all of my surplus rifles so im not finicky in how they feel. To me, the stock Rem 700 trigger break is just about okey. After shooting almost 60 rds on it the trigger feels a little lighter . I ve tried the X mark at Academy Store . I think its much better , the trigger face is smoother and not much difference than the older one.

If it was me , i leave it stock or maybe lighten it up a little bit. For a hunting gun, thats perfect.

Roc1,

Yep...the x-mark on my new .243 barely adjusted down at all. Plus< I can't stand that allen head that sticks out on the face of the trigger. That is reason alone to replace it with an aftermarket trigger IMHO.

It IS possible to adjust the Xmark trigger below 4lbs. Just not thru the standard remington process, its set up so that you can not go lower then that. Ive got mine around 2lbs, so fare 100% reliable and crisp. I honestly think its a pretty good trigger.

I replaced my xmark with a Timney too, for the same reason. Originally broke at 6 lb and I couldn't get it to 4 lbs. Not any kind of trigger that I want on my rifle.
