Think I posted in the wrong group before, so I'll try here:

I've got a Remington XP-100 Varmint Special in .223 Rem. with a 14 1/2 inch barrel. I'ts the original one, with the plastic stock with the white diamond inlay.

The XP-100 is a single shot bolt action pistol. The .223 Rem version was made from 1986 through 1992

Anyone out there with a Blue Book to give me an idea of the current value? Condition is mint to excellent.

BB lists it at $900 for 100%, but I have to laugh, don't think that kind of demand exists, best thing to do is bookmark a couple auctions on GB for same calibre if not same model.

I have to agree with Kman. It's been my experience that most of the estimates given in the "value" books are wildly dissimilar to what I see things actually selling for. Around here, at least.

That's the "fly in the ointment" when we're talking about guesstimating value, IMO. There are very large regional differences in demand that affect real-world market value markedly.

Personally, I'm a firm believer in the axiom that nothing is worth more than you can find someone willing to pay you for it on any given day.

That's the great thing about place like Gun Broker, et al. They let you get a much broader and more 'current' idea of what people are actually willing to give for a particular item outside of your immediate area. They also let you get the word that you have one out where there may be more interest and therefore demand for it.

IIWY, I'd find similar items on one or more of those sites, put them on my "watch list" and see how long it takes them to actually sell and what they bring. You'll get a much better idea of what the real market value for an item is at any given time. When you see an item that receives no bids at the 'asking' price or repeatedly closes with the highest bid not meeting the reserve price it tells you a lot.

You could try $900 if it's in really sweeet condition. Most people now are buying them mostly just for the action now to turn into longrange guns.

Thanks for the help. At least I now have a rough idea of the price range.

Sure appreciate the advice and assistance.
