Hi all.

I'm in the market for a nice field gun for pheasant and would like an o/u in 16 gauge. They are impossible to find! Lo and behold, Remington is bringing a new line from Russia of all places. They're new line is called the Spartan Gunworks and they come in the various calibers including 16 gauge which, in New England, is a perfect gun for our conditions.

Anyone here see or held any of these new shotguns? Do a Google search for them and you'll find a data sheet with some photos.

RE: Spartan

These are the Baikal Shotguns.

I have handled the 12 and 20 ga models. Honestly, the Baikals I handled before the deal with Remington were nicer. Better wood, wood to metal fit, and the actions a bit smoother. If you found a Baikal to look and compare, I'd consider that route first.

Spartan had the Big Green name, the examples didn't have the metal to wood fit, the 20 had better wood than the 12. Actions and triggers...stiff and heavy.

Granted just the examples I have seen locally, others locales could have different lots and better examples.

I have not looked, but see if Stoeger makes 16 ga. From what folks have posted these are getting good reviews.
