As more and more matches take place in Arizona, I'm wondering if there's any services that store firearms for you, and maybe even ship them from out of state? Kind of like the movable storage crates, but for firearms? I know New Jersey has something called gun sitters, but I'm looking for something in Arizona and something where I could ship them into Arizona prior to arriving? They're already mine, I'm just looking at storing the ones that I'm going to be using in AZ.

I see two troublesome aspects to this. You could rent one of those self-storage cubicles, but then security would be an issue.

Or, you could leave the guns with a trusted individual or business, but this would be a transfer requiring FFL formalities.

Perhaps you could get around these problems by installing a safe at a friend's house, to which only you would have the key or combination?

What about shipping firearm to a well-recognized gunsmith in Arizona for a detailed professional cleaning?

You could then pick-up your firearms in-person. At the conclusion of your Arizona trip you could return them to same gunsmith for another detailed cleaning and then firearms could subsequently be shipped back to you?

Or is your preference for monitored, climate-controlled, and permanent Arizona storage?
If it is a limited number of firearms perhaps you could strike a "vault rental deal" with a gunshop?

Seeing as how security, control and transfer are issues with the usual storage facilities, I think that filling this kind of a need is a business opportunity for FFL's and gunsmiths, because they're already set up to deal with those issues.

Based on my experience working at a gun dealer, room to store guns is at a premium. Every gun that I keep in storage is one less gun I can keep in stock to sell. There's not a lot of profit margin in new guns, but it would still be more than I would get in rent for stored guns.

Back when there were gun shops in my area, some of them offered storage service.

There are a number of scenarios where buying your own safe might not be the best solution.

I've read that there are FFLs near the Canadian border who will store firearms for a modest fee, for travelers who have to disarm before they can cross the border. I would assume there are dealers doing the same thing near the Mexican border.

Buy a Safe and put it in a small storage unit. Put a Lockdown Puck and a Ring Camera in the Unit. Most importantly, don’t talk about said storage unit

I’m the guy who gets a delay every time. If I store my guns with an FFL, they must log them into their books, and I legally must fill out a 4473 and they must call it in, every time I want to resume custody of some or all of my guns. It would be a minor hassle for a couple guns, but quite a major one if I needed a guarantee that I could have my guns in a timely manner. Most of the time the NICS check results in a delay and they call back within an hour, but sometimes it’s days.

Is it safe to assume you got a UPIN number? I used to have a big problem with delays and denials. That ended when I got the UPIN. It sometimes takes an hour but I alway get an approval now.

Nah I haven’t bothered. I’ve never seen a gun yet I couldn’t wait a bit for. I’ve never gotten a denial, it’s always a proceed in the end. Before Covid the 4473 call would get transferred to an “examiner,” and then it was proceed. Now it seems they don’t use the examiner anymore, just issue a delay and call the FFL back. Often now this call happens in a matter of minutes, but sometimes (during 2020/2021 especially) it was sometimes days. And if the shop somehow missed the NICS call, it might be weeks before they followed up.

I'd probably defer to the pros and see what their program is. There are folks that travel the country competing, and I bet they've figured out how to get their guns to where they're needed.
