I have a '50s N frame S&W that was coated in the '60s and I want it returned to blue. Any help ? I know it's a touchy sitaution as it requires unique expertise. Turnbull can do it ,any other shops ? Thanks...Dan

Armoloy is just a brand name for hard chrome.

Most platers that offer hard chrome can de-plate the gun, polish and re-blue.

Because of the hardness of hard chrome, and the fact that it actually "soaks" into the pores of the steel, the only practical method of removing it IS to de-plate it.

Again, almost all places that offer hard chrome can do this.

As I understand it, Armoloy is a thinner process with better adhesion than hard chrome and not as suceptible to flaking or chipping, but you're right , it is just chrome.
