Removing Epoxy Stock Finish.

I have a couple of European rifle stocks that apparently have stripper resistant epoxy finishes. A pint of Kutzit stripper had NO effect on either stock (Interarms and Kazznar Italian import). What is a good product for removing this old finish? Thanks.

Kutzit is a little low on dichloromethane (methylene chloride). The MSDS shows about 25%. Klean-Strip makes a stripper commonly referred to as aircraft stripper which is about as strong as is commercially available. You'll probably have to go to an automotive paint supply store to find it.
This stuff can discolor some types of wood. Especially oak. Might want to try it on the inside first. Be sure to remove any grease or wax from the surface. A lot times it helps to rough up the surface with 180grit or such. The stuff actually penetrates and works from the bottm up. Temperature is critical too. Under about 70 deg, you're spinning your wheels. Great nasal decongestant too!!!

Brownell's sell a special stripper specifically for epoxy finishes, such as the tough Remington "Bowling Pinl" finish.

Thanks but Brownell's is out of stock. I will try the Klean-Strip if I can find it. Still open to suggestions. Thanks.

Geez, 33 bucks a qt plus hazmat shipping. I guess it's worth it if it really works. Also noticed they were out of stock.
Another tip on these strippers, especially the thicker ones. Since they work on vapor penetration, put it on and LEAVE IT ALONE. You'll notice that it kind of flashes off to a dull finish. This is a wax barrier to keep the vapors in and directed down into the finish. If you go poking around and rubbing with your brush you'll disturb this barrier and allow the vapors to escape. Be patient.

Try "SEM XXX Aircraft Stripper". I got mine at a Bond Autoparts store.
