Removing grenade launcher from Yugo SKS

Title pretty much says it all. Right now I have a Yugo SKS with a rifled grenade launcher. Since I don't have access to rifled grenades, it pretty much only serves to add length and weight to the rifle, which I think could be better functionally utilized with a flash surpressor or a compensator. I don't mind the gas shut off valve but would like to know if there is a way to remove the grenade launch and its sight without lots of welding or labor, expense, or risk to damage to the rifle, particularly the muzzle crown.

I have one of those. When I say "why remove it?" I mean I ask b/c doesn't that void its C&R status? It has to have ten or less imported parts.

Technically, I suppose the removal of the rear sight and the addition of the Tech Sight means I already should be keeping track on US made parts.

As for why I want to take it off, I already gave a general reasons--basically it adds length and weight that I could better use elsewhere. Unless the BATFE lets me have access to functional rifled grenades I'd rather have a flash surpressor or compensator. If that means I have to do some shopping in TAPCO to put some US made parts on it, I suppose that can happen too. Whatever.

While we are on the subject, would anyone know off the top of their heads what threading the Yugo has? It wouldn't by any chance happen to be about the same as anything else on the market, would it?

I believe they are 14x1 RH. Also, the type of grenades that you shoot from this rifle fit over the adapter, they don't go inside it.

You will lose C&R as well so keep that in mind.

+1 for 50Caliber123. If you remove the grenade launcher, you will need to play the 922(r) ten-imported-parts-or-less game. Oh, and the parts game is played with the Governmemt's list of parts, not just any ol' parts that you add/replace that may be US made. The list of potential parts under considering is as follows:

(4) Mounting blocks
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
(15) Butt stocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearm hand guards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Followers
(20) Floor plates

Some of the parts on this list don't apply to the SKS. The easiest way to have less than ten of the remaining parts is to replace the stock, magazine, gas piston, and op rod with US made versions. TAPCO is your friend in this.
