Anyone out there removed the light rail from an M&P pistol? I'm gonna buy an M&P .45c and don't want the rail on the gun. I know the M&P's have a stainless skeleton embedded in the polymer frame. I doubt it extends into the rail though. I think a dremel tool will make short work of the rail lugs.

I don't want the rail there to alleviate the possiblility of it hanging up on a holster when I draw the weapon. If it's gonna happen it'll happen to me no doubt.

I'm sure you will get it off. The only thing i see that Might be an Issue, is the finish when done. At that point a Heat gun will probably be the key to a nice Finish. Find something that is textured and curved to the same roundness as the area in question. Heat and Form! IMHO good luck!

It's not going to get held up when you draw. Has anyone ever even heard of this happening?
Plus, won't it void your warranty?

Shabo, are you accident prone or just have bad luck? If either apply then leave the mods to a pro. There is virtually no way to remove the material and get it to match, many polymer frames are reinforced by metal mesh inbedded in the plastic. The front sight, it sticks up out of the slide, grind it off while your at it. Unfortunately most tupperware pistols have rails molded in the frame, my Glock does, I've come to terms with it.

Rather than permanently altering your gun you may want to trim a rail protector to fit, the skeletonized kind that fills the recesses. I dislike rails but am unwilling to alter my gun in a way that may well void the warranty and/or greatly devalue it in case of a sale down the road for something as innocuous as a rail.

While I dislike rails I have not found them to be an issue with hanging up.

I can't help but imagine that the end result will look something like this:

Where on earth did you get the idea that the rail will hang up on anything? I have never heard of this and can't begin to imagine what a rail would even be capable of hanging up on...
